Primverse — cover

Primverse is a shared 3D world where every island starts bare and the people on it make the rest. The tools come with the world — no other programs, nothing to export and bring back. A full 3D modeller lives in the world itself: points, edges and faces, extrude, bevel, loop cut and knife, materials and UVs. Land can be raised, dug, smoothed and painted, roads laid where they are clicked, and the hour of the sky set for each place.

Things are made to move in Lua, with a wiki page and an example for every function: doors that open for friends, vehicles, vendors, games that keep score. Surfaces are written in a few lines of code or snapped together from blocks, live as you go — lava that flows, water that ripples, a hologram that flickers. People fly, sail and teleport between islands, talk to whoever is nearby or call a friend anywhere, shape and dress their avatars, and sell what they make, take tips or rent out land.

Highlights

  • A full 3D modeller inside the world: build where things will stand
  • Lua scripting with a wiki page for every function, and shaders in code or blocks, live
  • Terrain you raise, dig, paint and pave; roads cut and filled to meet the land
  • Fly, sail and teleport between islands; voice, avatars, and a marketplace for what you make
